04 Master of Applied Research in Engineering Sciences
Are you interested in a degree program closely linked to a specific research and development project that you will work on throughout your studies? Then the "Research Master's" or "Master of Applied Research in Engineering Sciences" (MAPR) is the right choice for you.
The program can start in both the winter and summer semesters.
Application periods:
Winter semester: May 2 to June 15
Summer semester: November 15 to January 15
"Is the Research Master's right for me?"
The Research Master's program is aimed at students who have completed a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and are interested in working on research projects during their Master's studies. Compared to traditional Master's programs, you have much more freedom in choosing your courses and work very independently on projects. If you enjoy exciting technical challenges and can organize yourself well, this is the right program for you.
"What will I do in the Research Master's?"
The Research Master's program spans three semesters. In the first two semesters, you will independently work on a project that is part of a larger research project. The work is similar to a Bachelor's thesis or project work. You will also attend traditional lectures, which you can select from a wide range of Master's courses at HM in consultation with your supervisor. Additionally, there are university-wide courses and, in the third semester, the Master's thesis. This graphic provides an overview, and more detailed information about the study process can be found here.
"How can I apply?"
The formal requirements for admission include, among other things, 180 ECTS credits from a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and an overall grade of 2.5 or better. A unique aspect of this program is the individual supervision by a professor and integration into a research project. Therefore, you should contact potential supervisors before applying and agree on a topic. Many research institutes and faculties offer research topics for the MAPR.
