Evaluation of the provision of control reserve
Evaluation of the provision of control reserve by battery electric vehicles based on real mobility and charging profiles
The aim of this article is to assess whether the provision of system services by electric vehicles makes sense from an economic perspective. The German control reserve market of 2019 was considered as the reference market for system services. For the investigation, the demand behaviour of control reserve was combined with the real mobility and charging profiles of electric vehicles to evaluate possible bidding strategies and to quantify achievable cost savings and profit for an exemplary fleet of 40 cars.
The results show that aFFR-is potentially the most suitable product for achieving cost savings in the negative control energy sector. When considering the control reserve market as a reference market, the development of bidirectional charging concepts does not appear to be appropriate, as the level of energy prices for positive control energy is too low to compensate the defined additional aging effects of the vehicle battery.
