Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Stengel has been Professor of Building Materials, Construction Chemistry and Fundamentals of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Munich University of Applied Sciences since March 2020.

Previously, Prof. Stengel worked for about 10 years at the engineering firm Schießl Gehlen Sodeikat GmbH as a team leader and authorized signatory in the field of repair of reinforced concrete structures, concrete technology and material modeling. After his appointment, he is still active there as an expert in the fields of concrete technology, material modeling and structural damage.

After his studies, he worked from 2003 to 2010 at the Chair of Building Materials Science & Materials Testing at the Technical University of Munich (Prof. Schießl and Prof. Gehlen) as a research associate, department head (AG2 Concrete Technology) and research assistant. He completed his PhD in 2013 on the topic of "Composite behavior and mechanical performance of steel fibers in ultra-high performance concrete" (linked: https://mediatum.ub.tum.de/1185636). Besides the research topic UHPC, he worked mainly on research projects on concrete with recycled aggregate, life cycle assessment of concrete, hygric deformation behavior of concrete, influence of aggregate on freeze-thaw resistance of concrete, composite behavior of reinforcing steel & prestressing steel, and composite behavior of building materials of special civil engineering to steel and reinforcing steel.

From 1997 to 2002, Prof. Stengel studied civil engineering and construction materials engineering at the Technical University of Munich, where he worked as a research assistant at the Center for Construction Materials & Materials Testing (cbm) from 1998 to 2002. In 2002, he successfully completed his civil engineering studies at TUM.

Prof. Stengel is authorized to submit building documents in accordance with Art. 61 Para. 2 No. of the Bay-BO.
