Use the Creative and Entrepreneurial Potential of the University of Applied Sciences Munich

We as DT.LAB organise practical projects ("Challenges") in which students work on problems in the field of digitalization that have been identified by public sector institutions. We use state-of-the-art cloud technologies and innovation methods.

Challenges consist of concrete problems that arise from the work of an organisation and for which there is no obvious solution yet. It is important for us not to develop solutions that you as actor of the public sector have already planned, but to analyse the problem together with you, to work out proposals for solutions and develop them further in the course of the project (more about our approach here).

Expectations

If you decide to carry out a challenge with us, we expect you to participate as actively as possible in the challenge (co-creation). We expect you to present the problem to the students at the beginning of the challenge and to listen to the results at the end. Furthermore, you should actively participate in the innovation process and thus help the students to develop meaningful solutions.

After completion of the course, we publish the results under an open source license. This means that the results will benefit the general public and can also be used by other organisations, for example. This concerns the artifacts illustrating the innovation process (the press release, FAQs and visualisation) and, if applicable, any source code, but not the data collected during the challenge.

Selection

We collect suggestions for challenges and decide twice a year (around the end of term) which challenges to implement.

The criteria we use to select challenges include the social impact, the degree of innovation, feasibility and scalability as well as the active support that is offered of you as the challenge giver.

You can find examples of completed challenges in our Challenge Gallery.

The collaboration with the students and lecturers in the DT.LAB not only helped us make significant progress in our work, it was also a real enrichment on a human level. Happy to do it again.
