Solar Technology and Electrical Power Systems
The research group solar technology and energy technology systems focuses on the entire value chain of energy generation, consumption and storage from the point of view of grid integration, as well as methods for the data-based analysis of energy systems for the rational use of energy and energy efficiency.
We strive to make a contribution to the future, sustainable energy system, as well as to support students in their training to become engineers.
One focus is on the area of energy conversion through power electronics, with a focus on design, control and operation. Above all, this includes:
- Modelling and Simulation, System Design
- Implementation
- Measurement/Test and Analysis
Rooms
The main laboratory is located in room R2.081 (room finder). Further workplaces are located in E0215. Some of the experimental setups for the research projects are located on project area B0172.
Equipment
The equipment in the laboratory for solar technology and energy technology is used for both teaching and applied research.
For the investigation of inverters there are among others
- 3-ph. bidirectional network simulation (4-quadrant amplifier) Nominal Power ~ 20kW (continuous output) 0..5kHz, 0..630V
- 2x PV simulator with freely programmable I/U characteristics, max.7kW
- Bi-directional 15kW/1500V power supplies as load/source
- Test station with protective cover, e.g. for power converter tests
A "pump-back" test bench (1000V/30kW) is available for test of DC-DC converters (efficiency, dynamics, control).
The laboratory equipment also includes:
- Mobile power analyzers (a-Eberle PQ200, Fluke, Janitza, etc.) with 4-8 measuring channels per device with corresponding current transformers (total of ~10 mobile measuring cases)
- 3 programmable loads with max. 5kW/300V each
- Scope recorder with >16 channels (16Bit/1MS/s) with 1GW memory depth
- Zimmer ZMG 500 High Precision Power Meter
- Mobile 1-ph. Power pack 1000V/3.5 kW, e.g. for External EL-measurements
- EL camera, thermal imaging camera
- (12-bit) oscilloscope, isolated voltage and current sensors (xxMHz, xkV, xxxA)
- Measurement case for high-resolution measurement of single and three-phase loads
- Multimeter, laboratory power supplies, soldering station, etc.
