Nonlinear current control with optimal reference voltage saturation for electrically excited synchronous machines

This study introduces an optimal reference voltage saturation (ORVS) strategy for nonlinear current control in electrical drives with voltage source converters (VSCs) and electrically excited synchronous machines (EESMs). ORVS is framed as an optimization problem to maximize feasible current changes while accounting for voltage constraints. The aim is to minimize the difference between desired and feasible current dynamics. High-fidelity simulations validate ORVS, showcasing its advantages over classical methods with improved current tracking accuracy and reduced cross-coupling effects.
