Design and testing of a control concept for converter-based island grids with the integration of decentralized generation plants

Innovative solutions for island grid operation:

In order to optimize island grid operation and effectively integrate decentralized generation plants, we have developed a modern emergency power generator with battery storage and a grid-forming converter. A control concept specially designed for this operation was tested in a real-world laboratory and produced valuable measurement data.

Based on this data, we developed and validated a dynamic simulation model that allows us to precisely simulate a wide variety of load and generation scenarios. This provides new insights for the development of sustainable and stable energy systems of the future. Our innovative research at Munich University of Applied Sciences is significantly advancing further development in the field of renewable energies.
