Generic Approach to Reference Signal Generation for Active Power Filters

A generic approach to the generation of reference signals for active power filters (APFs) is proposed. The focus is on the implementation of frequency-selective operation strate?gies based on Fourier series. This is premised on the ideal extraction of the frequency components of the system’s voltages and currents, as well as the ideal utlization of the computed reference signals in the physical control system. The approach allows for arbitrary distortions and imbalances with respect to both, line voltages and load characteristics. Specific algorithms are showcased to demonstrate how nearly any stationary system behavior can be replicated by the active power filter applying a suitable operation strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by comprehensive simulation results.
