(Web) Apps for People with Dementia

15. April 2020.

Students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics worked on a DTLab challenge with the Alzheimer Society Munich in the winter semester 2019/20. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Thomas Kofler, eight teams created functional prototypes of apps for people in the early stages of dementia as part of the lecture "Software Engineering I". The challenge ran parallel to the challenge "."

The starting point was the question "Which technical solutions can help people with dementia and/or relatives and professionals?". Among other applications, a greatly simplified user interface for smartphones was developed to make it easier for people with dementia to use them. In addition, the students developed apps to train the memory for faces and names, for textual or video descriptions of everyday life and to support the individual when shopping. DTLab partner Amazon Web Services (AWS) provided technical support and a practical introduction to the "Working Backwards" innovation process.
